We have had a number of calls to the office today regarding SMS messages sent for absent students.
As per the notice sent home to parents yesterday, today is a normal school day. If your child is absent from school this will be recorded as an official absence.
14 July 2014
Dear Parent / Carer
I am writing to inform you that we have received notification from the Independent Education Union NSW/ACT that they are directing their members to take protected industrial action, including a three hour stop work on the morning of Thursday 17 July 2014.
It is important to note that similar industrial action is anticipated across all Catholic dioceses in NSW at some time during the first half of Term 3. In fact, catholic school employees in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle participated in industrial action in the last week of Term 2.
While I anticipate that a number of our school staff will be involved in the industrial action and will not be on duty until midday, I wish to reassure you that the school will be open as usual and direct supervision will be provided for all students.
Specifically, the following arrangements have been put in place:
- School will be open for normal school hours with buses operating as per normal schedules.
- Supervision and meaningful learning will be provided for all students.
- Senior classes will operate as per normal timetables if staff available.
- Special needs Life skills classes will not be interrupted.
- Normal classes will resume from Period 4 for all students.
As Principal, I am most concerned that the impact of this industrial action on student learning be minimised. Every effort has been made to ensure the school routine for the day will be as normal as possible. While some timetabled classes may be affected, all students will be under close, direct supervision for the full school day.
I express regret for any inconvenience that this industrial action may cause. Please feel free to contact the school office during opening hours if you require further information.
