Human Society & its environment
We live in a social, cultural and physical environment that is ever changing and evolving, from historical times to the present.
Stage 4
Year 7 students begin with the new Stage 4 Mandatory History course (NSW Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum). In this course students will study the following units:
Depth Study 1: Investigating the Past
Depth Study 2: The Mediterranean World - Egypt
Depth Study 3: The Asian World
Year 7 will then begin their Mandatory Geography studies in which they study:
Investigating the World
Global Environments
Year 8 students will continue stage 4 Mandatory Geography studies by engaging in these units:
- Global Change – students will study the changing nature of the world and responses to these changes
- Global Issues and the Role of Citizenship – students will study global geographical issues and appropriate methods of citizenship for their management
Year 8 students then complete their stage 4 Mandatory History course in which they study:
- Aboriginal and Indigenous People, Colonisation and Contact History – in which students develop an understanding of the impact of colonisation upon indigenous people
- The Shaping of the Modern World - students are encouraged to develop skills of historical inquiry by examining the motives and consequences of people’s actions in the past and exploring different interpretations of past events.
Stage 5
Year 9 students will study Geography one semester and History the next semester.
In Geography students will study the following units:
- Investigating Australia’s Physical Environments
- Changing Australian Communities
In History students are studying the new Stage 5 Mandatory History course (NSW Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum). In this course students will study the following units:
- Depth Study: Progressive Ideas and Movements
- Core Study: Australians at War
Year 10 students will study History one semester and Geography the next semester. In History students are studying the new Stage 5 Mandatory History course (NSW Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum). In this course students will study the following units:

Year 10 students may also elect to study Commerce as part of their School Certificate program of study. The Commerce course includes two core units:
- Law and Society
- Employment Issues
And three options:
- Promoting and Selling
- Travel
- Towards Independence
